Background
Stripe processes payments for other businesses. Its core product is an API. The company’s success is rooted in making payment integrations easy for developers, but we had begun to see signs of struggle.
Research questions
How do startups choose which Stripe products and API’s to use?
How do startups map their business needs to the Stripe integration that they choose? What resources do they use to make this choice?
What are the biggest barriers to developers integrating with Stripe accurately and efficiently?

Immediate team: EM’s and PM’s from three orgs (developers, developer advocacy, and API)

Impact
Insights from this project led Stripe to create a new team that would permanently own Stripe’s integration experience, including a lead product designer. We developed innovative concepts aimed at redefining a gold standard for software integration experience, then ran iterative research to evaluate these concepts and completely overhauled Stripe’s integration experience with successful concepts, including a patented integration builder.
